So, as a lover of graffiti art, when you see this-- does it make you sad or excited about the new graffiti that will inevitably come next?

I think it's always interesting to see what comes next. This wall is an easy target for taggers, so I don't expect it to stay pristine for long. It's been clean for over a week now, but I expect to see something up there each morning when I pass. It's just too accessible, and now too clean and white. The cycle in which things appear on a wall is also interesting to watch. Before this wall was repainted, small tags had given way to larger tags, then bubble letters, a large snake (by buttercup - I'm looking for a picture of another one in the neighborhood) and an anthropomorphized piston.
